JACL Pleased With Grant From The UPS Foundation

Washington, D.C.-The JapaneseAmerican Citizens League (JACL), the nation's oldest and largest Asian American civil and human rights organization, is pleased to announce that the JACL has been the recipient of a grant of $30,000 from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE:UPS).

The grant will be used to continue the Collegiate Leadership Program of the National JACL which brings future leaders within the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities to Washington, D.C. to learn leadership skills in the nation's capital.  The UPS Foundation also funded the program in 2009.

Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, GA., The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues.  In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving:  non-profit effectiveness, economic and global literacy, encouraging diversity, community safety, and environmental sustainability.

In 2008, The UPS Foundation distributed $46.9 million worldwide through grants that benefit organizations or programs such as the JACL and provide support for building stronger communities.

"The UPS Foundation is committed to funding impactful programs that make a meaningful difference in our communities-so we are proud to support the JACL's efforts to build leadership through its College Leadership Program," said Ken Sternad, president of The UPS Foundation.

Floyd Mori, national executive director of the JACL, stated:  "We are very grateful to the UPS Foundation for its commitment to the community and specifically to the JACL Collegiate Leadership Program which strives to build leaders for the future.  This program is conducted under the direction of our Midwest Regional Director, Bill Yoshino.  The UPS Foundation has benefited our organization by providing funds to help us continue in this important work."
